Pool tables are sized by the playing surface — the area inside the cushions where the balls roll — not the outer cabinet. Pros measure across the short side (the width) because it's faster and you don't have to reach across the table.
To measure: Run a tape measure across the short side of the playing surface, from the nose of one cushion to the nose of the cushion across from it. That number tells you the size.
- 39 – 40" wide → 7 ft · Bar / tavern table, often coin-operated
- 44" wide → 8 ft · Standard home table (most common)
- 46" wide → 8.5 ft · "Pro 8" or "Oversized 8" — Diamond, some Olhausen
- 50" wide → 9 ft · Tournament / pool hall regulation
No tape measure? Quick guesses:
- Came from a bar or has a coin slot → almost always 7 ft
- Bought from a home retailer (Olhausen, Brunswick, AMF for the home) → almost always 8 ft
- Diamond brand or you play league/tournament on it → likely 8.5 or 9 ft

How much does it cost to refelt a pool table?
Refelt service starts at $595 for a 7' or 8' table with our standard teflon-treated Championship cloth. Upgrading to premium Simonis worsted cloth adds $200. If you have a 9-foot tournament table, there's a $50 cloth surcharge on top (covers the extra material). If your home is more than 15 miles from Lakewood, a travel fee applies.

How often should I refelt my pool table?
Most home tables need new cloth every 5 to 10 years. Heavily used tables — league play, family rooms with kids, or bar-style use — may need refelting every 1 to 3 years.
Signs it's time: faded color from sunlight, fuzzing or pilling on the surface, balls rolling unevenly or "skipping," visible cuts and burns from miscues, or worn spots near the head string and rails.

We're based in Lakewood, Washington and service the greater Puget Sound area, including Tacoma, University Place, Steilacoom, DuPont, Puyallup, Spanaway, Gig Harbor, Federal Way, Auburn, Kent, Renton, Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Seattle. Travel within 15 miles is included in the quote; beyond that, a travel fee is added based on distance.
We service Pierce County, Thurston County, and southern King County regularly. For jobs more than 100 miles out, give us a call — we'll quote travel individually.
Do you move one-piece slate tables?
No. We service three-piece slate tables only. One-piece slates — common on older bar tables and some coin-op models — require specialized equipment and risk that we don't take on. If you have a one-piece slate that needs to be moved, we can recommend a specialist.
How long does a pool table refelt take?
A standard 8-foot refelt takes 2 to 3 hours on site. Larger tables and cushion replacements take longer. The table is fully playable the moment we're done — no curing or drying time needed.
